I always get a bit homesick around Mardi Gras season. Back home in New Orleans the streets are filled with laughter, marching bands and endless parades of revelers tossing beads, cups, doubloons, and sometimes even coconuts. This past weekend my wife and I went to the wine pick up party at one of our local favorites -Ancient Peaks in Santa Margarita. They had a great Mardi Gras themed pickup party with gumbo, fried okra, funky music and of course plenty of libations. The food was great - whoever made that gumbo knew what they were doing! We ran into some fellow revelers and made a few new friends - we even ran into a real Mardi Gras Renegade. A tasty blend of Syrah, Malbec and Petite Verdot all from the Santa Margarita Ranch.

Ancient Peaks is a really unique place unto itself in the Paso Robles AVA and worth having a look at. They always seem to have something fun going on; you can do their zip line tours, visit the ranch or just hang out on the porch and watch the parade pass by. The wines are great values and the cafe is a fun stop for some high quality eats. Stop by and say hello.
